Team Captain of Nigeria, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, was defeated in his opening group game against Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi, losing 2-0 in the men’s Badminton Singles on Tuesday evening.
The two-time African Games Champion showcased commendable skill, nearly clinching the first set. He led by three set points but ultimately lost in a tie-break with a score of 22-20.
In the second set, Opeyori staged a comeback, tying the scores at 6-6. However, Kuenzi maintained his momentum, eventually taking the set 21-14, resulting in a 2-0 victory.
Despite this setback, Opeyori will return to the court today to compete against China’s Li Shifeng.
