As tensions rise in Nigeria over an upcoming nationwide protest, the leadership of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria-B-Zone (MSSN B-Zone) has issued a fervent appeal for caution and dialogue.
The Amir, Dr. Kolawole Moshood Al-Asqalani, voiced the group’s concerns, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government to address the populace’s demands equitably.
Dr. Al-Asqalani emphasised the importance of a peaceful approach, urging for a postponement of the protest to prevent it from being hijacked by disruptive elements looking to incite religious and ethnic discord.
Reflecting on the painful memories and tragedies of the #EndSARS movement, where many innocent lives were lost, he highlighted the dangers posed by escalating tensions.
The MSSN B-Zone outlined several key reasons to reconsider the protest:
1.The risk of exacerbating existing national challenges.
2.Historical evidence that such demonstrations often turn violent.
3.The need for the government to alleviate avoidable hardships burdening Nigerians.
4.A call for leadership to reduce governance costs, including allowances, and to restructure offices.
The Amir also addressed the recent controversy surrounding a movie that misrepresented Islam by depicting armed robbers in Muslim attire.
He called for decisive punitive measures against the filmmakers, condemning the offensive portrayal. As the Muslim students community awaits the authorities’ response, the call for calm remains paramount.
