Nigeria International, Kelechi Iheanacho has completed his transfer to Spanish club, Sevilla on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old arrived at the La Liga club for his medical on Tuesday, which was concluded on Wednesday, followed by the signing of the contract that makes him the club’s fifth summer signing after Nigeria teammate Chidera Ejuke, Peque, Saúl, and Lokonga.

The former Leicester City striker signed for two seasons, with an option for one more, arriving on a free transfer after his time at Leicester City.

Iheanacho joined Leicester City in 2017, a club where he had previously spent time on loan in their youth academy after arriving in Europe. With the then-recent Premier League champions from the 2015-16 season, he played a total of 232 matches in all competitions, scoring 61 goals and providing 34 assists during his tenure, which lasted until the 2023-24 campaign.

The new Sevilla striker has also appeared in 19 European competition matches: seven in the Champions League, 11 in the UEFA Europa League, and one in the Conference League.

Regarding his national team numbers, he has played 55 matches and scored 19 goals to date.

His greatest achievement came in 2015 with the U-17 World Cup victory in Chile, helping Nigeria to their fifth record triumph and earning the Golden Ball as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Although Sevilla’s forward line may not seem entirely complete, Iheanacho’s signing comes as a replacement for En-Nesyri. Another summer signing, Peque, traditionally an attacking midfielder, will count as a forward for his new coach, filling the space left by Rafa Mir. This move finalized Sevilla’s attacking front line, well before the month of August even started.
