Team Nigeria’s challenges at the Paris Olympic Games persisted on Thursday as both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams failed to secure a place in the final.
In the men’s heat 1, the Nigerian team consisting of Favour Ashe, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Alaba Akintola, and Usheoritse Itsekiri finished 7th with a Season’s Best of 38.20 seconds, trailing behind South Africa (37.94 seconds) and the USA (37.47 seconds).

In the women’s heat 2, the Nigerian quartet of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Tima Godbless placed 6th with a Season’s Best of 42.70 seconds, missing out on both automatic qualification and a fastest losers spot.
This marks the second consecutive Olympics where Nigeria will not compete in the women’s 4x100m final. Despite the disappointment, the team’s performance indicates potential for future development.

In another event, Nigeria’s Edose Ibadin was unable to advance to the semifinals in the men’s 800m, finishing 7th in his Repechage heat with a time of 1:49.09. Botswana’s Kethobogile Haingura secured the automatic qualifying spot with a time of 1:45.52, earning a place in the final.
