Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan is confident of finally making her mark at the Olympic Games after missing the podium in her last two attempts.

The 100m Hurdles World Record holder made a strong statement at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning her heat and advancing to the semifinals with an impressive time of 12.49 seconds on Wednesday.

“God is great,” Amusan said in an interview. “This is my third Olympics, and the goal is to execute each round. I think I did a pretty decent job, though my coach might be mad at me for not finishing strong. But we have three rounds, and I’m taking it easy to see how fast I can go when I really push.”

Known as “Tobi Express,” Amusan has consistently dominated the 100m hurdles, securing gold medals at the World Championship, Commonwealth Games, African Championship, African Games, and Diamond League. However, an Olympic medal has eluded her, with her best finish being fourth at the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite holding the World Record, Amusan feels no added pressure. “You mentioned I’m the world record holder, but there’s no pressure on me. It comes with the territory, but I approach every race as an underdog and just focus on enjoying it.”
