Kenyan police have announced a substantial cash reward for information leading to the arrest of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a notorious serial murder suspect who recently escaped from custody.

Khalusha, who was being held at the Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi, managed to escape along with 12 other detainees on Tuesday.

Following the escape, eight police officers were suspended, and five have been charged in court. Authorities believe the breakout was facilitated by insiders within the station.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a wanted notice, urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to Khalusha’s re-arrest. The DCI emphasized the reward but did not disclose the exact amount.

Khalusha, who reportedly confessed last month to the murders of 42 women, including his wife, had been awaiting formal murder charges at the time of his escape.

However, his lawyer claims the confession was obtained under torture. His escape has shocked and angered many Kenyans, especially given the high-profile nature of his alleged crimes.

The escape reportedly involved cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling a perimeter wall. Gigiri Police Station, located about 10 km from Nairobi’s city center, is in a district known for hosting the regional headquarters of the UN and various embassies.

This incident follows a similar case in February, where another murder suspect, Kevin Kangethe, walked out of a different Nairobi police station undetected. Kangethe was later re-arrested and is currently facing extradition to the United States.
