The Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, who led the operation, condemned the actions of the suspects, stating that the current fuel scarcity does not justify exploiting residents by selling petrol in unauthorized quantities at inflated rates. He emphasized that this illicit practice not only burdens already struggling motorists but also poses a significant safety risk due to the highly flammable nature of petroleum.

“We are dedicated to stopping these illegal activities and ensuring public safety. The actions of these black market operators are cruel and pose a grave threat to public safety, as improper handling and storage of petrol can lead to catastrophic consequences,” Akerele stated

He further warned individuals and groups collaborating with petrol stations to engage in illegal sales to desist immediately or face arrest. The public was also urged to report any suspicious activities related to the illegal sale or storage of petroleum products, with the agency vowing to take swift legal action against offenders.

The six suspects—Toibu Ishola, 44; Yakubu Olayiwola, 34; Adebayo Rasak, 29; Maria Balogun, 50; Motunrayo Dosunmu, 43; and John Ogunfowokan—are set to face charges in court soon. The Lagos State Taskforce reiterated its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the metropolis.
