Joint security forces have successfully neutralized the notorious bandit kingpin, Baleri Fakai, and 30 of his associates in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
Fakai, who was eliminated over the weekend, was a close ally and leader under Bello Turji, a feared bandit leader operating in Nigeria’s North-West region.
Bello Turji, notorious for orchestrating numerous massacres and terror attacks, has been a significant figure in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger states. In 2022, Turji’s gang carried out brutal attacks in Zamfara, resulting in the deaths of nearly 200 civilians, including women and children.
The elimination of Fakai marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry and restore peace in the troubled region. Security forces remain committed to pursuing other high-profile criminals, including Bello Turji, to further curb violence in North-West Nigeria.
