The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced a restriction of movement in Edo State in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024. This measure aims to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.

According to a statement from Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, all vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other transportation methods will be prohibited from 6 am to 6 pm on election day, with exemptions for essential services such as accredited media, electoral officials, ambulances, and emergency responders.

The IGP has also implemented comprehensive security measures, including a ban on security aides and escorts accompanying VIPs to polling booths and collation centers. Unauthorized security personnel and vehicles using sirens are prohibited to maintain a calm voting environment.

Special attention will be given to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and the elderly to ensure accessibility at polling stations. The IGP has urged residents to refrain from making prank calls to emergency lines during the election, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious activities that could disrupt the electoral process.

Egbetokun reassured citizens of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to a safe and democratic environment and urged all political parties and candidates to adhere to electoral laws to ensure a smooth election.
