The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the APC’s Gubernatorial Candidate Monday Okpebholo winner of the Edo Governorship Election.
At 54, Okpebholo secured victory in the election with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who trailed behind with 22,761 votes.
Fourteen other candidates also contested but received significantly fewer votes than the top three.
INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Kuta, declared the results at 9:27 pm on Sunday at the collation center in Benin City, the Edo State capital. “That Okpebholo Monday of the APC, having met the legal requirements, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Kuta announced to the jubilant cheers of APC supporters.
