Libya’s national football team, the Knights, have selected the Martyrs of Benina Stadium as the venue for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

This Matchday 4 fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, at the 10,000-capacity stadium in Benina, located 19 kilometers from Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city. The venue, formerly known as Hugo Chávez Stadium, features an artificial pitch, a surface that may present challenges for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria currently tops Group D in the race for a 2025 AFCON spot, having earned four points from their first two games. They began their campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo and followed it with a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.

Meanwhile, Libya sits at the bottom of the group, having drawn 1-1 at home against Rwanda and lost 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan.

The two teams will first meet in Uyo on Friday, October 11, for a Matchday 3 encounter kicking off at 5 pm Nigerian time. Four days later, they will face off again in Benina, with the game set for 8 pm Nigerian time.

Libya will hope to leverage their home advantage to reignite their qualification hopes, while Nigeria will aim to build on their strong start and move closer to securing a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
