Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court, contesting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) declaration of him as a wanted person.
Bello is currently facing a 19-count charge, with allegations of laundering N80.2 billion.
During a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, his legal team, led by A. M. Adoyi, informed Justice Emeka Nwite of the pending appeal, which was filed on September 23. Adoyi urged the court to halt the scheduled arraignment of the former governor until the Supreme Court has issued its ruling on the matter.
EFCC’s lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, accused Bello’s lawyer of undermining the judiciary’s integrity. The EFCC had alleged that Bello resisted arrest, visiting their office with someone with immunity, potentially sparking altercations.
