LaLiga president, Javier Tebas has urged Nigerian midfielder, Christantus Uche of Getafe to formally report any incidents of racism he experiences in Spanish stadiums, following Uche’s recent comments about racial abuse in the league.

Earlier this week, Uche expressed his frustration over the racist insults he encountered from fans. In response, Tebas stated, “I would have liked him [Uche] to have told me. What I ask is that he does not allow this to happen and reports it to his club or La Liga so we can take appropriate measures. If we had detected it, those responsible would have been identified and expelled, as seen in the cases of Vinícius and others.”

Tebas emphasized that LaLiga has implemented special cameras in areas of matches where racial outbursts are likely to occur.

Uche, now in his first season with Getafe after joining from lower-league Ceuta, made an impressive debut, scoring the equalizer in a thrilling 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao.

In light of recent incidents, Tebas has called for prison sentences for fans who racially abuse players during matches. He welcomed a recent court ruling that handed a 12-month suspended sentence to a Mallorca supporter who directed racist insults at Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze in February 2023.

“This sentence is one of many that may come from pending cases at the judicial level,” Tebas said. “We will continue until the end; if we have to put those who shout or sing racist slurs in jail, we will do so.”
