Nigerian social media personality and cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against internet activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, demanding N1 billion in damages.

This legal battle erupted after VeryDarkMan shared a voice recording, which he claimed was evidence of Bobrisky confessing to bribing officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him.

Bobrisky has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that the voice recordings implicating him were generated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

In response, Bobrisky shared a legal notice from his lawyers on social media, demanding a public apology from VeryDarkMan within 24 hours, both in written and video form, in addition to the N1 billion in damages.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has launched an official investigation into bribery allegations involving the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

The claims, brought to light by VeryDarkMan, suggested that Bobrisky’s charges were dropped after the alleged N15 million bribe.

Rep. Patrick Umoh, representing the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, sponsored the motion during a plenary session, expressing concern over the reputational damage the claims have caused.

He emphasized the negative portrayal of Nigeria as a corrupt nation and stressed the importance of addressing these allegations swiftly.

Umoh highlighted the circulation of VeryDarkMan’s publication, which not only accused the EFCC of dropping charges against Bobrisky but also alleged that Bobrisky, after being convicted for defacing the Naira, did not serve his sentence in a correctional facility, but instead, was housed outside its confines.
