A former governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦150 million by Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
The bail terms require two sureties of equal sum, both of whom must reside in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with their addresses verified by the court registrar. One of the sureties must be a director in the Federal Civil Service, according to the court’s directive.
Ishaku, who served as governor from May 2015 to May 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦27 billion fraud. Along with his co-defendant, Bello Hero, the court also restricted Ishaku from traveling abroad without its permission.
Rotimi Jacobs, the counsel for the EFCC, did not oppose the bail request, noting that Ishaku had been granted administrative bail earlier and did not violate its terms.
Justice Oriji has scheduled the trial to commence on November 4, 5, and 13.
