Nigeria’s Flamingos played out a 1-1 draw against Mexico in a friendly match on Monday, as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The match, held in the Dominican Republic, provided a valuable opportunity for both teams to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the tournament later this month.

Faridat Abdulkareem opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 33rd minute, finishing off a well-executed team move.

However, Mexico leveled the match just before halftime, finding the equalizer in the 42nd minute. Despite both teams creating chances in the second half, neither side could find the winning goal, and the game ended 1-1.

The Flamingos led by coach Bankole Olowookere, will look to build on this performance as they head into the World Cup.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group A, alongside hosts, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand.

Their opening match is set for October 16, 2024, against New Zealand.
