The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has surged to N1,500 per kilogram, adding pressure on Nigerian households already burdened by high fuel costs. In some regions, such as Abuja, the cost of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder has jumped to N17,000, a sharp rise from N12,000 just three months ago.

Suresh Kumar, CEO of NIPCO Plc, expressed optimism for future price reductions as local refinery projects, like the Dangote Refinery, come online. Currently, over 60% of Nigeria’s LPG is imported, contributing to the high prices. Kumar emphasized the need for government support to boost domestic production, convert propane to butane for household use, and end gas flaring.
