Tragedy struck Plateau State as assailants carried out a horrifying assault on numerous communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas, claiming the lives of no less than seventy-six individuals.

Monday Kasa, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau, disclosed to the media that these coordinated attacks unfolded on Saturday, extending into Christmas Eve when the residents were immersed in festive celebrations.

As the gravity of the situation unfolds, Kasa reported an escalating casualty count, with security personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters relentlessly searching the bushes for missing persons ambushed during the assaults.

The grim aftermath includes not only loss of life but also extensive property damage, as assailants set numerous houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and wrought destruction upon the affected communities.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, reacting to the unprovoked attacks, expressed condemnation and emphasised the need for swift action and community vigilance.

In an official statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor called upon security agencies to promptly apprehend the perpetrators, ensuring they face the full consequences of the law. Mutfwang urged communities statewide to maintain vigilance, encouraging them to report any suspicious activities to security operatives for immediate intervention.

While the police force and the joint security task force Operation Safe Haven are engaged in ongoing rescue operations, a veil of silence surrounds their official comments on the attacks, leaving the affected communities in anticipation of justice and security.
