Former House of Representatives member, Farouk Lawan, has been released from prison after serving a five-year sentence. Lawan was convicted for soliciting and accepting a $500,000 bribe.

His conviction, which was upheld by the Supreme Court on January 26, 2024, stemmed from an investigation in 2012, when he demanded a $3 million bribe from Nigerian billionaire oil magnate, Femi Otedola.
