Detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit in the Western Cape are actively searching for suspects involved in a deadly shooting in Atlantis on Wednesday night, which left five people dead and five others seriously injured.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the victims were traveling in three vehicles, returning from Silverstroom beach, when gunmen opened fire on Old Mamre and Silverstream roads.

“Five individuals, aged between 18 and 30, were fatally shot, while five others were rushed to a hospital with serious gunshot wounds,” Potelwa confirmed.

Atlantis police have launched an investigation into charges of murder and attempted murder. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet, Potelwa added.
