Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha set a new men’s half marathon world record on Sunday, completing the Medio Maraton de Valencia in Spain in just 57 minutes and 30 seconds—one second faster than the previous record held by Kenya’s Jacob Kiplimo, set in Lisbon in 2021.

At 27 years old, Kejelcha achieved this milestone in only his sixth half marathon, maintaining a steady pace behind the pacemakers before making his decisive move around the three-kilometer mark.

He ultimately broke away from Kenyan runners Daniel Mateiko and Isaia Kipkoech to clinch the victory with a record-breaking performance.
