Nineteen traditional rulers, including district and ward heads from the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have resigned from their positions to endorse Senator Ibrahim Lamido. The resignations include ward heads from various communities such as Sabon Birnin Gabas, Tsilba, and Magajin Dawakin, among others.

This mass resignation follows the recent departure of the District Head of Sabon Birni, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Bawa, who submitted his resignation letter on October 16, 2024. In his letter, Bawa stated, “I was appointed district head of Sabon Birni on July 15, 2014, and I resigned my position to join the political wagon of Senator Ibrahim Lamido.”

Alhaji Lauwali Shuaibu, the ward head of Taka-Tsaba, expressed to journalists that their decision to resign was due to their grievances being overlooked, stating, “We have tendered our resignation letters, but nobody invited us to hear our grievances.” He highlighted Senator Lamido’s consistent support during times of crisis, saying, “The man is always coming to our rescue whenever bandits attack our people.”

Another resigning ruler, Alhaji Jamilu Gwanda Gobir, the Ubandoman Sarkin Gobir, explained that their resignation aimed to salvage the Gobir district. “About 10 traditional rulers joined me in resigning our positions. I served the district as Ubandoma for nine years, and our positions are now vacant.” He affirmed that the resigning rulers are committed to supporting politicians who prioritize the welfare of their constituents.
