Former Super Eagles of Nigeria Coach, Jose Peseiro, has been nominated for the World’s Best National Team Coach award by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Despite his omission from the Confederation of African Football’s Coach of the Year shortlist—which includes Burkina Faso’s Brahim Traore and Cote d’Ivoire’s Emerse Fae—Peseiro received recognition on the global stage from the IFFHS. This honor has previously been awarded to Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni for two consecutive years.

Following the announcement, the former Sporting CP manager expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for his 22-month journey with the Super Eagles.

“I am extremely proud and grateful for this nomination from the IFFHS, a reflection of the dedication and hard work of my coaching staff and myself with the Nigerian national team,” Peseiro shared. “The records we set will be remembered, as well as our unforgettable path to the AFCON final. My appreciation goes to the NFF, the players for their commitment in training and competition, and to all the staff and fans who supported and believed in us.”

He added, “I also want to thank my family for their constant support and encouragement.” Peseiro, 64, will be up against top coaches like Gareth Southgate, Didier Deschamps, Ronald Koeman, and Lionel Scaloni for this prestigious award.
