President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his re-election as the 47th President of the United States, expressing optimism for deeper U.S.-Nigeria relations in his congratulatory statement.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations in addressing economic, peace-building, and global challenges. “Together, we can advance economic collaboration, promote peace, and tackle pressing global issues that impact our citizens,” Tinubu said.

The Nigerian leader highlighted the significance of Trump’s prior experience as the 45th U.S. president, suggesting that his return to office may mark a new chapter in beneficial, reciprocal partnerships between Africa and the United States. Tinubu believes this will support economic and developmental projects benefiting both nations.

Tinubu also praised the democratic process in the U.S., adding that Trump’s victory reflects the trust and confidence placed in him by the American people. He underscored the influence of the United States in setting the direction of global events and expressed his hope that President Trump’s leadership will contribute to international peace and prosperity.

The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on November 6, 2024.
