Mujeebat Idris, an undergraduate at the Bola Ajibola College of Law, Crescent University, Abeokuta, has claimed first place in the prestigious 2024 National Essay Competition organized by the Parliamentary System of Government Support Group (PSSG).

Her winning essay, titled “From Presidentialism to Parliamentarism: Examining Nigeria’s Quest for Better Governance,” was showcased before a live audience during the PSSG National Dialogue held in Abuja. Her compelling insights outshone entries from two other finalists, Henry Chukwura of the University of Calabar, who took second place, and Nabila Sule from the University of Ilorin, who came in third.

The PSSG organizing committee praised Mujeebat’s work as an exceptional piece, highlighting its quality amid a highly competitive field. The competition, supported by Honorable Representatives Kingsley Chinda, Abdussamad Dasuki, and Wale Raji, alongside the House of Representatives, aims to inspire dialogue on a homegrown parliamentary system for Nigeria.

Crescent University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, expressed his pride in Mujeebat’s accomplishment, calling it a “magnificent achievement” and thanking Almighty Allah for the recognition. “Congratulations to you and all of us. More blessings, onwards and upwards,” he stated.

Professor Momodu Kassim-Momodu, Dean of the Bola Ajibola College of Law, also celebrated Mujeebat’s success in a message, saying, “Congratulations to you, Mujeebat. We are proud of you. The best is yet to come.”

This is not Mujeebat’s first recognition; she previously earned the Bronze in the 2021 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition and was honored as The Brainbox of Bola Ajibola College of Law in 2023. Her recent achievement further solidifies her as one of Nigeria’s promising young legal minds
