Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali is mourning the passing of his father, who died shortly after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Thursday Night.
Nigeria secured qualification for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Morocco with a game to spare, thanks to Victor Osimhen’s late equalizer, which canceled out Mohamed Tijani’s early goal for Benin. Despite rainy condition and a tough opponent, the Nigerian team fought hard to secure the crucial point needed to solidify their qualification.
Nwabali, who traveled with the team to the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Friday. In an emotional post, he wrote, “Rest in peace, dad” and “Rest in heaven,” accompanied by tearful and heartbreak emojis.
