The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Libya’s military by pledging continued support for the Libyan Navy and expanding engagement with professional military officers across the country.

In a statement released Tuesday night, the US Embassy in Libya commended the Libyan Navy for its active participation in Phoenix Express 24, a multinational maritime exercise organized by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). The exercise, held in Tunisia, brought together maritime forces from North Africa, Europe, and the United States to bolster cooperation and expertise in maritime security operations.

“This year marked the largest Libyan Navy presence yet in this significant Mediterranean security exercise, featuring the ships Al Karama and Ibn Ouf along with over one hundred sailors from both the west and east,” the statement noted. The US Embassy emphasized its commitment to aiding Libya in strengthening unified maritime security and expanding engagement with military professionals across the nation.

Meanwhile, EU Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando met with Minister of State Adel Jumaa in Tripoli to discuss the EU-Libya partnership. “We reviewed areas for deepening cooperation and reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the rights-based structured dialogue initiated by President Von der Leyen and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah,” Orlando said. Key topics included civil aviation, higher education, and health.

Orlando highlighted the EU’s readiness to support Libya in enhancing border security and emphasized the importance of working alongside the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to promote stability and unity through dialogue. Discussions also addressed the need for a unified national budget and transparent resource allocation.

The EU ambassador encouraged Libyan authorities to continue engaging constructively with stakeholders, reiterating the EU’s willingness to assist Libya in its efforts toward peace and stability.
