A 51-year-old man recently returned from the United States, Sunday Abioye, was found dead in a hotel room in the GRA area of Sagamu, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. She explained that the Chief Security Officer of the hotel, identified as Mr. Oluwole, reported the discovery of the lifeless body to the police.

Upon receiving the report, detectives visited the hotel and found the deceased’s body placed in a car outside, prepared for transport to the morgue by his family.

According to Abioye’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos, the deceased had arrived in Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Godday recounted that on Monday, he visited the hotel and knocked on Room 109, where his brother was staying. After receiving no response, he requested a spare key from the manager and discovered Abioye’s lifeless body inside the room.

Photographs were taken at the scene, and various drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the room. The bed was reportedly soaked with an unidentified liquid substance.

A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, disclosed that he had accompanied Abioye the day before to purchase nine different types of medication due to health complaints.

The body has been transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. The police have stated that no cause of death has been established yet, and the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
