President William Ruto has extended his congratulations to the outgoing Chinese ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian, for his exceptional role in advancing the ties between the two nations. During a farewell meeting at State House Nairobi, the president commended Pingjian for his significant contributions to the growth of Kenya-China relations.
Ruto highlighted the solid partnership built between Kenya and China over the years, emphasizing that their cooperation has worked for the mutual benefit of both countries. The president cited key areas of success, including infrastructure, education, transport, and water projects. Notable achievements include the Standard Gauge Railway, various superhighways, bypasses, and the construction and equipping of technical colleges—projects that reflect the flourishing relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Zhou Pingjian, who completed his four-year tenure as Kenya’s Chinese envoy, became the seventeenth ambassador since the two nations established diplomatic ties 61 years ago. His tenure has been marked by strengthened bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and development initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also praised Pingjian for his dedication to advancing Kenya-China relations. Kindiki acknowledged the progress made in various sectors under the BRI and the significant infrastructural projects realized through bilateral programs. He expressed Kenya’s desire to further deepen ties with China, citing the importance of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in strengthening these relationships.
Mudavadi reiterated Kenya’s gratitude for Pingjian’s contributions, affirming that the enduring strategic partnership with China is centered on mutual benefit and people-centered collaboration. He expressed confidence that the partnership will continue to bring transformative opportunities, sustainable progress, and economic growth for both nations.
As Ambassador Pingjian completes his tour of duty, Kenya looks forward to further strengthening its ties with China, ensuring a prosperous future for both nations.
