Ibikunle Olamide, a talented Nigerian fashion designer from Port Harcourt, has embarked on an extraordinary quest to set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest sewing marathon by an individual.

Starting on December 3 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Port Harcourt, Ibikunle is aiming to break the record with a nearly five-day continuous effort, scheduled to conclude on December 7.

What makes her attempt unique is that she is hand-sewing the entire time, using only a needle and thread—no sewing machines allowed. The purpose of her challenge is to demonstrate her craftsmanship and unyielding determination.

“I’m gearing up for something extraordinary—a Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Sewing Marathon, done entirely by hand!” Ibikunle said. “This isn’t just about sewing; it’s about pushing boundaries, showcasing craftsmanship, and making history.”

By the time of this report, she had already surpassed 12 hours of continuous sewing. Ibikunle confirmed that GWR has approved her attempt, and she is being closely monitored to ensure she meets all the necessary requirements for the record.

Ibikunle’s attempt follows a previous effort by Nigerian Edmond Peace, who tried to set the record in July 2023 with a goal of 170 hours but was forced to abandon the attempt after a few hours. At present, no one holds the record for the longest sewing marathon in the prestigious Guinness World Records book.
