A midnight inferno on Wednesday devastated the Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State, destroying goods valued at millions of naira.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident, stating that the fire started in the early hours of the day.

The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations are ongoing. Responding swiftly to distress calls, LASEMA activated the state’s emergency response plans and deployed its Emergency Response Team from Igando.

Upon arrival, the team discovered several shanty shops consumed by the flames. Personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other emergency responders worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent properties.
Dr. Oke-Osayintolu and the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that the fire had been brought under control. They assured the public that further measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
