A devastating fire swept through Accra’s Kantamanto Market in the early hours of Thursday, leaving a trail of destruction and loss for traders.

The inferno, which began around 1:00 a.m., ravaged over 100 shops, prompting a large-scale response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Five fire tenders were initially dispatched to combat the blaze, with additional support deployed as the fire proved more intense than anticipated.

A total of 13 fire appliances from various stations eventually arrived on the scene, with personnel working tirelessly to extinguish the flames and prevent further damage.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) quickly cut power supply to the area, ensuring the safety of the operation.

Despite the massive deployment of resources, firefighters were still battling the blaze after five hours.

The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed by the GNFS, but investigations are expected to commence once the area is secured.

This incident marks another significant loss for traders in the Kantamanto Market, which has been prone to similar disasters in the past.
