Officials of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Jordan, which oversees Iraq, have successfully intervened to facilitate the return of 28-year-old trafficked Nigerian woman, Eniola Isaac, to Nigeria.

Eniola was reportedly lured to Iraq under false promises of a better life but ended up facing severe abuse, physical assaults, and mistreatment from her employer. Desperate for help, she reached out to Nigerian authorities, pleading for her safe return.

In an update shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, NiDCOM revealed that Eniola is expected to return to Nigeria on January 3, 2025, thanks to the intervention of the Nigerian mission in Jordan.

The commission also disclosed an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of another Nigerian woman who had traveled to Iraq for work as a caregiver. The Nigerian government has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

NiDCOM warned Nigerians about fraudulent agents who lure young women to Iraq with false promises of employment and better opportunities, only to subject them to slavery, abuse, and exploitation upon arrival.

The commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such deceptive schemes, emphasizing the growing dangers of human trafficking in the region.
