The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi for his unwavering commitment to building a better Nigeria.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the former Anambra State Governor shared his admiration for Farotimi following a visit to the activist, who recently returned from a correctional facility in Ekiti State.

Farotimi had been arrested on December 3 by the Ekiti State Police Command over allegations of defamation and cyberbullying brought against him by legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Aare Afe Babalola. The claims stemmed from statements made in Farotimi’s book titled Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.

Obi expressed his joy at finding Farotimi in good spirits despite the ordeal. “Since his return from the correctional centre in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria,” Obi said.

He further described Farotimi as a symbol of courage and resilience, adding, “Dele Farotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation.”

Obi concluded his remarks by wishing Farotimi a productive year as they continue working towards national progress.
