A devastating attack by suspected Islamist militants on the Dumba community in Nigeria’s Borno State has left at least 40 farmers dead.
The attack occurred on Sunday when the farmers ventured outside a military-established security corridor, entering an area notorious for insurgent activity and landmines.
According to State Commissioner of Information Usman Tar, the militants are believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
These groups have been waging a long-running insurgency in northeast Nigeria, perpetrating violence against civilians.
The Borno State government has condemned the attack, with Governor Babagana Zulum calling on the military to track and clear the insurgent elements operating in the area.
Efforts are currently underway to locate any farmers who may have escaped the brutal attack.
