The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the death of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi Salisu, during a raid in Anambra State.

The incident occurred on January 17, 2025, when Salisu was shot by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.

The EFCC expressed grief over the loss of their officer, stating that he was killed in cold blood while performing his legitimate duties.

The commission also condemned the “irresponsible, callous, inhuman and outrageous narratives” circulating on social media about the incident.

Many Nigerians took to social media to criticize the EFCC for allegedly carrying out an illegal raid at night. However, the commission denied these claims, stating that the operation was duly documented and followed operational protocols.

The EFCC has vowed to bring Ikechukwu to justice, and preliminary investigations have revealed that he was involved in coding and online medical supplies of doubtful legitimacy.

The commission has also warned the public about the increasing hazards posed by internet fraudsters, who are allegedly involved in kidnapping, banditry, and ritual killings.
