The Federal Government of Nigeria has applauded the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, expressing optimism that it will alleviate widespread civilian suffering in Gaza.

In a press release issued on Monday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government acknowledged the agreement as a significant step toward easing tensions after 15 months of conflict. The deal provides relief for families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons while facilitating the delivery of vital aid to the affected region.

Nigeria also commended the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, who played critical roles as international guarantors of the agreement.

The Federal Government emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of peace and ensuring the successful execution of subsequent phases of the agreement. It reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution as the foundation for achieving lasting peace in the region.

The statement reads: “The Federal Government of Nigeria welcomes the agreement of a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. “Nigeria also welcomes the supply of much-needed aid and relief materials that the peace deal facilitates.

“Nigeria urges all stakeholders to build on the new momentum and work towards the successful implementation of the second and third phases of the agreement, and reaffirms support for a two-state solution as the blueprint for a just and lasting peace for Palestine, Israel, and the entire region.”
