The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye, before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo, Abuja.

The re-arraignment is connected to allegations surrounding the award of the contract for the construction of the 3,960MW Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station in Taraba State.

Agunloye is facing an amended seven counts of forgery, disobeying presidential directives, and gratification.

The EFCC alleges that he awarded the contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited without budgetary provision, approval, or cash backing on May 22, 2003.

Furthermore, the commission claims that Agunloye received N5.212 million from Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited and Leno Adesanya through Jide Abiodun Sotinrin.

This transaction was allegedly made through Agunloye’s Guaranty Trust Bank account for conveying the federal government’s approval for the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station project.

Agunloye has pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.

This development is the latest in the EFCC’s efforts to tackle corruption and ensure accountability in Nigeria’s public sector.
