Forces from Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region have captured significant territory from Islamic State militants during a recent offensive.
Puntland officials claim that 250 square kilometers, including 50 bases, have been seized since December 31.
The region’s military spokesperson reported that at least 85 IS militants were killed in battles over the past two days, while 17 soldiers also died.
