Nigeria has signed agreements with Algeria and Niger to revive the long-stalled Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, aimed at boosting gas exports to Europe.

The deal, finalized during a conference in Algiers, involves energy companies from the three nations and addresses key aspects of the project, including an updated feasibility study, a compensation framework, and a non-disclosure agreement.

The pipeline, spanning 2,565 miles, will connect Nigeria’s Warri hydrocarbon fields to Algeria’s Hassi R’Mel hub on the Mediterranean coast, with the Algerian segment alone covering 1,435 miles. Once completed, the pipeline is expected to transport up to a trillion cubic feet of natural gas annually.

Initially proposed in the 1970s, the project has faced delays but was reignited in 2022 by energy ministers from the three countries.
