The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into allegations of civilian casualties resulting from an airstrike conducted on February 15, 2025, in Katsina State.

The airstrike, which targeted bandits at Yauni Hill in Safana Local Government Area, was part of Operation Fasan Yanma aimed at neutralizing the assailants responsible for an attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) location.

The attack on the PMF location had resulted in the killing of two PMF personnel and four vigilantes, prompting NAF air assets to engage the suspected hideout of the assailants.

According to Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, multiple bandits were neutralized in the operation.

However, reports alleging civilian casualties have prompted the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, to order a thorough investigation. Akinboyewa noted that while the claims are distressing, they remain allegations until a comprehensive investigation is concluded.

The NAF has reassured that it operates under strict rules of engagement and internationally accepted standards to minimize collateral damage, with the well-being of Nigerian citizens remaining its top priority.
