A devastating fire broke out at the Talata Mafara Central Market on Tuesday, leaving more than 25 people with severe burns as traders and shoppers scrambled for safety. Many of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a sudden gunshot was heard, followed by a powerful explosion that ignited the inferno.

“We heard a loud bang, and then fire spread rapidly across the market. People ran in different directions, but many were caught in the flames,” a trader who witnessed the event recounted.

The Zamfara Police Command, which confirmed the incident, stated that a Dane gun was recovered from the scene, but no arrests have been made. Authorities believe the perpetrator may be among the casualties.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to identify those responsible. The market, a major commercial hub in Zamfara, has suffered extensive damage, and security agencies are working to restore order while providing emergency support to victims.
