Nigeria Super Falcons striker, Gift Monday has been nominated for the February Player of the Month Award in Spain’s top women’s division following her impressive performances for UDG Tenerife.

The 23-year-old has been instrumental for Tenerife this season, scoring 10 goals in 19 matches and helping her team climb to sixth in the league standings. Her form has also placed her third on the Liga F top scorers’ chart, trailing Barcelona’s Ewa Pajor (15 goals) and Edna Imade (12 goals).

Monday faces stiff competition for the monthly award, with Real Madrid’s Alba Redondo, Barcelona’s Caroline Hansen, Deportivo’s Ainhoa Marín, Athletic Bilbao’s Ane Azkona, Granada’s Ari Mingueza, and Eibar’s Elba Vergés also making the shortlist.

Despite failing to score in Tenerife’s 1-1 draw against Eibar last Saturday, Monday had netted in six consecutive matches before then, further proving her consistency in front of goal.

Currently in her third season in Spain, Monday believes she is getting closer to her peak, saying:

“Right now, I feel like one of the best players in the world. Competing with exceptional players from bigger clubs motivates me, and I love the process of improving every day.”

Monday initially joined Tenerife in 2022 on a three-year deal from FC Robo, but her outstanding performances earned her a contract extension until 2027. With her current form, she remains a key player for both her club and the Nigerian national team as she continues to make her mark in European football.
