Sphamandla Mabonga, a prominent businessman from Gauteng, was fatally shot in a violent altercation at Solo restaurant in Sandton on Thursday night.
Mabonga’s two bodyguards also lost their lives in the incident, while five others were injured.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the altercation began when Mabonga, who was carrying a firearm, attempted to enter the restaurant, which has a strict no-firearm policy.
This led to a confrontation between Mabonga’s bodyguards and the restaurant’s security personnel, resulting in a deadly shootout.
Mabonga was taken to theé hospital with gunshot injuries but later succumbed to his wounds.
The police have confirmed that Mabonga was arrested for another shootinge incident in Sandton in January 2024. A case of murder and attempted murder is currently being investigated.
Tributes have been pouring in for Mabonga, who was also known for his past relationship with reality TV star and singer Londie London.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many taking to social media to express their condolences.
