In a significant move, Kenya’s President William Ruto and Raila Odinga have formalized a partnership between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The agreement, signed at KICC in Nairobi, outlines a ten-point agenda to address Kenya’s social, economic, and political challenges.

Key Components of the Agreement:

  • Full Implementation of the National Dialogue Committee Report: Aiming to promote national unity and cohesion.
  • Strengthening Devolution: Ensuring effective governance and resource allocation at the county level.
  • Inclusivity in Government Appointments and Resource Allocation: Promoting equal opportunities and representation for all Kenyans.
  • Youth Empowerment: Creating economic opportunities for young people to tackle unemployment and promote national development.
  • Anti-Corruption Measures: Eliminating wastage of public resources and conducting an audit of the national debt.
  • Right to Peaceful Protests: Guaranteeing the freedom of assembly and expression for all Kenyans.
  • Preventing Conflicts of Interest: Establishing a legal framework to handle conflicts of interest within government institutions.

President Ruto emphasized the need for unity, stating that despite differences in politicals strategy, the shared goal of national transformation remains paramount.

This partnership marks a significant shift in Kenya’s governance approach, bringing together key leaders from both sides of the political divide.
