According to NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the destruction of the counterfeit drugs was necessary to prevent their reintroduction into circulation.

Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, packaged water, and drinks.

The destruction of the counterfeit drugs is part of NAFDAC’s recent enforcement activities, which included raids on open drug markets in Idumota, Onitsha, Ariara, and Ezeuku.

The agency discovered unregistered products, banned products, and controlled substances, including Analgin and Tramadol 225mg.

Several suspects were apprehended during the three-week exercise, and further investigations are ongoing.

NAFDAC has appealed to the general public, community leaders, health practitioners, and the press to assist in the fight against falsified medicines.
