World number two Eniola Bolaji has continued her dominance in para-badminton SL3, securing her second medal in two weeks after a stellar performance at the Spanish Para-Badminton International 2025 in Toledo, Spain.
The Paralympic bronze medallist defeated Turkey’s Halime Yildiz 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) in Sunday’s final, adding another gold to her impressive collection.
Bolaji kicked off her campaign with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-8) victory over India’s Sanjana Kumari in the second round. She then overpowered Halime Yildiz once again in the third round, winning 2-0 (21-9, 21-12).
In the semifinal, the multiple African champion outclassed Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyba 2-0 (21-16, 21-4), securing her place in the final, where she dominated Yildiz for a second time.
An elated Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), lauded Bolaji’s resilience and record-breaking achievements.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Eniola Bolaji on winning her 12th gold medal in as many international tournaments. This is a testament to her consistency, resilience, and unwavering dedication to excellence,” Orbih said.
He emphasized that Bolaji remains the only African player to have won 12 gold medals in all international para-badminton competitions she has participated in.
“Bolaji has not only made Nigeria proud but has also stamped her authority on the global stage. Her journey continues to inspire many, and we at the Badminton Federation of Nigeria remain committed to supporting her as she reaches even greater heights.”
Orbih also expressed excitement about the upcoming All African Para-Badminton Championship and the Abia International Para-Badminton Championship, set to take place in Nigeria this year.
“It brings me joy that the giants of African para-badminton will be hosting an international championship alongside the African championship in Nigeria. This will provide an opportunity to showcase our rich badminton culture and expose new talent to the world.”
He also thanked the Abia State Government for agreeing to host the two historic events, reinforcing Nigeria’s status as a powerhouse in African para-badminton.
