Nigerian Government Declares March 31, April 1 as Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025 as public holidays to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan, emphasizing the values of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He urged Nigerians to embrace love, forgiveness, and solidarity to foster national unity.

The minister also called on citizens to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity. He expressed hope that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration would strengthen bonds across religious and ethnic divides.

Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, reflecting the true essence of Ramadan and Eid.

On behalf of the Federal Government, he wished all Muslim faithful a joyous Eid Mubarak, praying that the season brings happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.
