A political pressure group, Action Collective (AC), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of shielding Senate President Godswill Akpabio from scrutiny over sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group expressed concerns over the handling of the case, particularly the withdrawal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who stepped down due to alleged external pressure.

This development has been described as “deeply troubling and a direct threat to judicial independence”.

Action Collective is calling for both Akpabio and Neda Imasuen, chairman of the senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions, to step aside and allow an independent inquiry to take place. The group believes that their continued stay in office could compromise the integrity of any probe.

The situation has raised concerns about the credibility of the National Assembly, with Action Collective warning that a legislature that cannot uphold ethical standards and protect victims of misconduct loses its moral right to perform oversight functions.
