Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho played a key role in Middlesbrough’s 2-0 victory over Blackburn at Ewood Park on Friday, providing both assists in the win.

Iheanacho, who scored his first goal for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 win over Oxford last weekend, was named in the starting lineup for the match against Blackburn by coach Michael Carrick. The decision to trust Iheanacho paid off early, as he set up Tommy Conway for the opening goal in the second minute. Just six minutes later, Iheanacho turned provider again, delivering a perfect ball for Samuel Iling Junior, who fired a powerful shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

Despite the impressive assists, Iheanacho came close to scoring a third goal in the 15th minute when he found himself one-on-one with the Blackburn goalkeeper but missed the opportunity. He had another chance just before halftime, but after being played through on goal by Mark Travers, Iheanacho couldn’t find the back of the net.

Blackburn improved in the second half but failed to break through Middlesbrough’s defense. Iheanacho was substituted in the 85th minute, but his two assists were enough to secure the 2-0 victory for his team.

The performance continues Iheanacho’s strong run of form, with three goal involvements in his last two games for Middlesbrough. However, with the club fighting for a spot in the Championship playoffs, Iheanacho will be looking to maintain his form and help his side push for a Premier League promotion.
